Hazing Prevention and Reporting: What Advisors Need to Know

This training equips academic advisors with the awareness and skills to recognize signs of hazing, understand its impact on student success and well-being, and fulfill their responsibilities as mandatory reporters. Participants will explore the prevalence and scope of hazing in the collegiate setting, learn about reporting requirements and institutional response procedures, and develop strategies for supporting students affected by hazing.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

    1. Recognize warning signs of hazing and explain the potential academic, physical, and mental health impacts on students.
    2. Explain their responsibilities as mandatory reporters, outline the institutional procedures for reporting hazing concerns, and describe the university’s response and investigation process following a report.
    3. Connect students with appropriate support resources and provide informed follow-up after a hazing incident or disclosure.
